Everton supporters were in good voice in the Transfer Tavern over the weekend after seeing their side get back to winning ways.
The Toffees were seriously struggling and stuck in a run of four successive defeats prior to AFC Bournemouth’s visit on Saturday, and things looked set to get a whole lot worse for manager Ronald Koeman when Josh King gave the Cherries the lead just after half time.
Nonetheless, two Oumar Niasse strikes secured a much-needed victory for the Merseyside outfit to move them out of the bottom three, giving our resident Evertonians something to cheer about after what has been a tricky few weeks for those supporters.
And those hardy Toffees fans lining up at the bar are likely to be intrigued by a promising recent report from The Daily Mirror, which suggests that Koeman’s men are interested in Aston Villa youngster Keinan Davis.
The 19-year-old came through the ranks at Villa Park to earn his senior debut against Tottenham earlier this year, and he has since gone from strength to strength with 14 further appearances for the Villans, in which time he has bagged two goals and laid on two assists.
In fact, all four of those contributions have come this season to underline the growing influence the forward is having at Villa Park, and with seven successive Championship starts, it’s clear that manager Steve Bruce rates him very highly, and sees him as vital in their quest for promotion.
And the Villa chief isn’t the only one as reports suggest that Everton, as well as Arsenal and Manchester United, sent scouts to watch the 19-year-old in action on Tuesday night against Burton Albion, in which he scored his second goal of the campaign.
Thus, Davis is set for a very bright future, but where he ends up after Villa very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Keinan Davis has shot to prominence since the turn of the year, and is now a key member of the Aston Villa squad which is chasing promotion to the Premier League.
Two goals and two assists in seven Championship starts underlines the 19-year-old’s evident talent and undoubted potential, so it’s hardly a surprise that scouts from Arsenal, Everton, and Manchester United were in attendance at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday night as Villa beat Burton Albion 4-0.
Toffees chief Ronald Koeman has placed great emphasis on youth since taking over at Goodison Park, with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Tom Davies, and Mason Holgate impressing, and that willingness to trust may be of interest to Davis should the aforementioned trio come knocking in the near future.
