Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern were left disappointed over the weekend after seeing their side lose at Brighton.
Rafa Benitez’s men were embarking on a three-game winning streak in the Premier League which propelled them up to fourth in the division, with West Ham, Swansea City, and Stoke City all coming unstuck against the North East giants.
However, the Magpies suffered a third league loss of the campaign after going down 1-0 to Chris Hughton’s Seagulls, with Tomer Hemed grabbing the all-important goal, yet there may be some encouragement for our resident Newcastle fans if a recent report from Turkish Football is anything to go by.
And that’s because they report that the top-flight outfit are set to reignite their interest in Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues in January, having come up short in their quest to land him over the summer.
The 26-year-old only moved to the Turkish giants earlier this year following a short spell at PAOK, but has in that short space of time bagged two goals and laid on six assists in just 26 appearances for the club, with three of those assists coming in six Super Lig matches this time round.
And his fine form for Galatasaray reportedly attracted the attention of Benitez’s Newcastle over the summer, and although they were unable to get a deal done during the window, they are continuing to monitor the Cape Verde international by reportedly sending scouts to their recent encounter against Osmanlispor.
And should Rodrigues continue to impress for the Turkish league leaders, he may well be subject of intense interest from the Magpies come the New Year.
Landlord’s verdict: Newcastle United have made a fine start to the new Premier League season, although their recent loss at Brighton did somewhat highlight the limitations of their squad.
So news that they are continuing to keep tabs on Galatasaray’s Garry Rodrigues isn’t too much of a surprise, especially given that the 26-year-old has made a great start to the new campaign with three assists in just six league games.
And one of those assists could turn out to be a crucial one as Newcastle scouts were reportedly in attendance when he laid one on in their 3-1 success over Osmanlispor last month – more of those could see the Magpies firm up their interest again in the January window.
