West Ham fans have been left to drown their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern this week following their recent Premier League defeat to Tottenham.
The Hammers were embarking on a three-match unbeaten streak prior to Spurs’ visit on Saturday, but that run was soon halted thanks to a brace from Harry Kane, as well as Christian Eriksen’s second goal of the season.
That 3-2 loss saw Slaven Bilic’s men fall back into the bottom three after six games of the campaign, giving the Croat much to think about ahead of their vital clash at home to Swansea City on Saturday.
Away from the field though, there may be some good news for our resident Hammers if a recent report from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo (via talkSPORT) is anything to go by, as it details an update regarding William Carvalho’s Sporting Lisbon future.
The Portugal international came up through the ranks at the club and has since gone on to play 161 times for the senior team, bagging ten goals and laying on 14 assists in the process.
And Carvalho was at the centre of a huge transfer saga over the summer between Sporting and West Ham, which eventually resulted in a deal failing to materialise, but with the East London side still reportedly interested in the midfielder, and Sporting seeking to cash in, it’s a move which could very well happen in January.
Landlord’s verdict: It was one of the most drawn-out transfer sagas of the summer, but ultimately a deal to bring William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon to West Ham failed to come to fruition.
Much has been said in the aftermath as to why it didn’t happen, but recent reports suggest that it could still take place in January given that the Portuguese side need the funds.
And this is likely to be of interest to West Ham, despite the fallout from the summer, given that it’s one position that the Hammers desperately need to strengthen to bolster their ranks, and thus bolster their chances of climbing the division.
But whether the two sides are willing to negotiate after what happened during the summer very much remains to be seen.
