Burnley fans in the Transfer Tavern have been biting their nails over the fight for the automatic promotion spots to the Premier League since their 1-0 away win to Preston on Friday, but sources close to TEAMtalk.com have confirmed the Lancashire club’s interest in Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood.
The 26-year-old may be offered a instant route back to the Premier League as it is reported that Westwood is top of Burnley’s transfer list if they are to secure promotion this year.
They are currently top of the League on goal difference as Middlesbrough and Brighton make up a three-way battle for the automatic promotion spots, all on 87 points.
Westwood has made over 120 appearances for the Villan’s scoring five goals in all competitions. The former Crewe star has been somewhat of a utility man for Villa since his move, playing right-back and centre-back before establishing himself as a deep-lying midfielder in recent years.
The Burnley fans in the Tavern believe he would be a good fit next to key-man Joey Barton next year.
