As another working week draws to a close, Arsenal fans drinking in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking forward to their Saturday 3pm Premier League fixture with Newcastle United away at St. James’ Park.
One man who may have been looking forward to the fixture on Tyneside with extra relish was Mathieu Debuchy who the Gunners signed from the Magpies for £12 million in the summer but due to a serious injury, the French international will miss the game after being out since the Gunners’ home fixture with Stoke City back in January.
Many of our resident Gooners rate Debuchy highly and despite both Calum Chambers and Hector Bellerin not disgracing themselves in the former Lille man’s absence, multiple voices claim they’d rather Debuchy back sooner rather than later, such is his commitment to the cause.
When the Gunners were tasked with sourcing a replacement for the since departed Bacary Sagna in the summer, they fortunately managed to source his replacement in Debuchy much quicker than the Gunners usually take in transfer negotiations.
Judging by this image source below, it appears the Gunners were always on course to secure a deal for Debuchy.
One of his childhood heroes in Robert Pires (the other guy) must have put in a good word during the Frenchman’s youth…
