Provocative Signings ‘R’ Us

Wotchyoolookinat?

So William Gallas has completed his move to Tottenham. This transfer has quite rightly provoked debate amongst Tottenham fans on whether signing Gallas was really worth it seeing as he is 33 years old and previously played for Chelsea and Arsenal.

Harry Redknapp called the deal a ‘No-brainer’ and Benoit Assou-Ekotto has stated he wouldn’t mind if Darth Vader played for spurs as long as he did well. In contrast to Darth Vader though Gallas has switched from the dark side, and I think most Tottenham fans have accepted Gallas could prove to be a useful signing as he has champions league experience and didn’t cost anything.

In his time at Arsenal he managed to score which should mean we have an extra option from corners and freekicks, and who knows maybe a goal against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Personally I’m not too keen on Gallas coming to Spurs, but I realised what will probably will be Gallas’ most important role during his career at Tottenham.
Michael Dawson proved last year he is a brilliant defender and fully deserved his place in that dreadful England squad (He should have been starting over that shit excuse of a footballer Upson and Thug Terry) However I have noticed over the past few seasons Dawson has always looked a lot better whilst playing alongside Woodgate (which it seems is no longer an option) and obviously King.
Unfortunately, King will not able to play many games this season which would have left Dawson as our main defender for the season. I don’t think that without King Dawson is a bad player, far from it, but when Dawson plays as the lead centreback for instance last week against Young Boys, Dawson tends to look a lot less confident and becomes more prone to making errors ie Second Goal for Young Boys.
Gallas is more experienced than Dawson and now when Dawson plays alongside Gallas he will know he has a centreback playing alongside him who is confident and demanding and not relying on Dawson. This will mean Dawson can play a more natural game and concentrating on defending, and since Dawson is vice captain this will mean Dawson will continue to grow in confidence.
Although I think Bassong and Kaboul are both very good centrebacks, I think I will feel more confident now knowing if King cannot play we have Gallas to provide some stabilty to our defence and install a winning mentality in our team which he had back from his days at Chelsea (He won nothing at ARSEnal!)
