Diego Rodriguez Lopez is on Arsenals radar as they look to add a keeper to their squad for the start of next season.
The Villarreal keeper has been on form this season with 8 clean sheets in 23 appearances and this hasn’t gone unnoticed with the Gunners eager to add some experience to the goalkeepers at their disposal.
Lopez has helped Villarreal climb to fourth place in the league and have established a seven point lead over Athletic Bilbao in fifth. The former Real Madrid keeper has been integral to the clubs success.
With Almunia looking to be on his way out of the club and Wenger without Fabianski for the rest of the season through injury, 20 year old Szczesny has been thrust between the sticks. Lopez would provide Arsenal with a dependable goalkeeper who has made well over 100 appearances for Villarreal and has European experience through the Europa League.
The 29 year old Spaniard is extremely dependable and rarely succumbs to injury. With Wenger’s well documented prudence in the transfer market Lopez looks like the most viable deal with the keeper coming without a huge fee. Somewhere in the region of £5 – 6 million should be enough to capture Lopez’s signature.
With Arsenal keeping tabs on the Yellow Submarine’s number one, they could finally make a move for him in the summer as the need for a keeper becomes more necessary.
