Last Summer saw Tottenham defy the riches of Roman Abromovich and hold on to their prized asset Luka Modric, and it appears this summer could once again see Spurs fighting to keep hold of the little Croatian.
Last week Harry Redknapp revelaed that contract talks with Modric were stalling with The Times online report that has left PSG on red alert should Spurs be willing to make a cash cow of the Crotian before his contract expires.
The move to France may not appear a natural career move for Modric but the French outfit are backed by Qatari investors, and couldbe willing to splash the cash in a bid to challenge’s europe’s elite.
Carlo Ancelotti is rumoured to want Modric to bolster his squad ahead of next season’s champions league campaign, and if results continue in the direction they have been of late at White Hart Lane this may be competition Modric would not be able to compete in should he remain in North London.
Last Summer Spurs’ were unwilling to sell the Croatian international for any less than £40 million, a valuation Chelsea were unwilling to meet.
If PSG are serious about becoming a super power of European football they may well have to pay over inflated transfer fees and wages, as Chelsea and Manchester City did when inititaly building a side to challenge for top honours, to attract players of Modric’s calibre.
