Here at the Football Transfer Tavern we are dumfounded at the latest claim from The Times who claim that Wayne Rooney is a £40 million target for Paris Saint Germain.
The forward has been somewhat marginalised by Robin van Persie at Old Trafford this season but is still a key part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side and a massive fan favourite to boot.
Of course the Red Devils are not exactly in short supply of forwards with Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck also on their books and United are still being linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Polish international forward Robert Lewandowski.
All of this has convinced PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti that he could well be in with a shot of landing Rooney and as we all know, money is not an object for the Ligue 1 outfit. United would want at least £40 million for the player and would probably push for more.
As our landlord points out, United are constantly being linked with a move for their former hero Cristiano Ronaldo and the sale of Rooney could well go in large part to financing this bid. Should the forward actually make the move to the French capital it would see him link up with the ego himself Zlatan Ibrahimovic and form what PSG supremos consider to be a dream team up top. Not to mention it would provide the rather hilarious challenge of Rooney learning French!
Would Rooney entertain a move to Paris or has this rumour been on the booze? Rate this rumour below.
