Puel really needs to partner Harry Maguire with Burnley lynchpin in ambitious January swoop

Leicester City may have not reached the phenomenal heights they have become accustomed to in the past year, but with Claude Puel now at the helm of the club, it appears that the only way is up for this talented squad from the East Midlands.

The Frenchman has performed wonders since his appointment earlier in the season, and Leicester looked destined for a top-half finish under the stewardship of the former Southampton gaffer. Foxes fans here at The Transfer Tavern are massive fans of their new boss, and are always keen to tell our landlord just how far they feel they can go with Puel in the hot seat. A popular bunch here in The Tavern, our Leicester City regulars can often be found around the quiz machine, and after nailing a question about the top scorer at the 1986 World Cup, got chatting with our landlord over a cold pint.

Fans are well aware that changes to the squad are needed in the new year if their side are to continue their march up the table, and begin to overtake the likes of Burnley in the coming weeks. Defensively the Foxes have been suspect, with a massive thirty-two goals conceded in just twenty-two games this season. If it had not been for their prowess in front of goal, this Leicester side could be struggling towards the foot of the table. This is an issue Puel must address and fast, and our landlord couldn’t help but suggest Burnley’s James Tarkowski to the attentive Foxes fans.

Knocking on the door of an England call-up, the former Brentford defender has been sensational this season, and his form has played a huge role in Burnley’s phenomenal defensive record this season. Just nineteen goals conceded in the league, Sean Dyche has forged a near impregnable unit at times, and Tarkowski has been central to the Clarets success. Leicester already boast England international Harry Maguire at the heart of their defence, and with Wes Morgan not getting any younger, a replacement must be sourced in the near future.

The 25-year-old could prove to be the perfect addition to the back-line at The King Power Stadium, and although Burnley are likely to demand a huge fee, you cannot help but feel that this would be money well-spent, and Leicester’s league position can only improve with the Manchester-born star in the side. If Puel pulls this off, he would have one of the strongest central defensive pairings in the Premier League.

Leicester fans, is another central defender high on your list of January priorities? Let us know!
