Manchester City were quiet in the summer transfer window as they look to become the first team since 2009 to retain the Premier League title.

Pep Guardiola made just one significant signing – the £60m capture of Riyad Mahrez to Leicester. The Algerian joins a star-studded attack consisting of Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane. The 2016 PFA Player of the Year has all the tools to succeed at the Etihad Stadium.

City kicked off the 2018/19 season with a 2-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates. Goals from Sterling and Silva handed Guardiola the perfect start to the season. However, City fans will be concerned that speculation persists that Sterling will leave the club. According to reports, City are no closer to agreeing a new contract with the England international with the two parties believed to be far apart on wages.

Should Sterling depart, City would be wise to launch a bid for Borussia Dortmund superstar – Christian Pulisic. Valued at £40.5m by Transfermarkt, the 19-year-old is the youngest player to represent the United States national team in a World Cup qualifier and the youngest ever foreigner to score a goal in the Bundesliga. He made netted four goals and registered five assists in the German league last season.

The youngster is tipped for a bright future after showing signs he could develop into one of the finest players in the world. Dortmund are no longer the European giants they used to be, and the chance to work with Guardiola could be enticing for the forward. Not only would City gain a great player, Pulisic’s marketability is unbelievable.

City would be able to tap into the US market by landing America’s brightest prospect. Bringing Pulisic to the States in pre-season could be huge for the Citizens. Losing Sterling would hurt, but Pulisic would be a worthy replacement.
