West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are glad to see the World Cup finally get underway but are still hoping for some transfer business at the club.
The Hammers appointed former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini after David Moyes left the club at the end of the season. Pellegrini has wasted no time in revamping his squad, signing Fulham right-back Ryan Fredericks. His attention will surely turn to attack after agreeing on a deal with Toulouse defender – Issa Diop.
West Ham struggled for goals last season, with only Marko Arnautovic hitting double figures. To improve the form of Javier Hernandez, they need to sign a world-class playmaker who is capable of unlocking defences. With Manuel Lanzini injured for the foreseeable future, a new number 10 will need to be targeted.
One man they have targeted according to reports is Borussia Dortmund midfielder – Mario Gotze. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the German would be an excellent signing for Pellegrini. He made 23 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, scoring two and assisting three.
After re-joining the club from Bayern Munich, Gotze struggled with a rare muscular disorder which caused fatigue and weight gain. Subsequently, his form suffered, and he lost his place in the team.
If he can put his injury troubles behind him, the German would be a top player in the Premier League. With an eye for a pass and excellent dribbling ability, West Ham would be wise to lure the World Cup winner to the London Stadium.
