The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling very confident ahead of their clash against Arsenal on Saturday – and with good reason…
The Blues have been on fire all season long, comfortably dispatching nearly every side in the top flight over the course of the campaign.
Pundit Pat Nevin, though, doesn’t think that the Blues should take the game against Arsenal lightly. Writing for the official Chelsea website, Nevin has noted that Arsenal’s lack of success this year could spell bad news for the Blues: “The thing is, that [their lack of success this year] could make them even more dangerous. Their players will certainly be up for it… and of course they are now serious underdogs in the eyes of most people, which takes the pressure off to some degree”.
Certainly, Nevin makes an excellent point – and it is something that the Blues need to be wary of. There is no doubting that Chelsea’s fine form this year came about as a means of making things right after the nightmare that was last season, and the FA Cup could serve a similar purpose for the Gunners. They’ve had a very poor year, and so the only thing that can salvage it for them could be by winning a trophy.
With players like Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in the squad, they clearly know how to win, and if they turn up with their strongest players all on form on Saturday, Chelsea could seriously struggle to compete.
However, that being said, Chelsea have been doing very well as of late, and whilst poor form could spur Arsenal on – Chelsea’s great form could spur them on. Having already picked up the Premier League, the Blues will undoubtedly want to add some more silverware to their trophy cabinet.
