Pundit: I’d be surprised if Liverpool weren’t able to do this against Newcastle

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling pretty confident ahead of their clash with Newcastle this weekend…

The Reds have been doing pretty well in the Premier League, and Jurgen Klopp’s men will be feeling as though they can beat Newcastle, who themselves have made a fairly decent start to the campaign too.

It’ll be a tough game, undoubtedly, but Liverpool will be the firm favourites in the build-up, and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has no doubt that the Reds will come out on top.

Predicting a 3-1 win for Liverpool, Merson has pointed towards Liverpool’s lethal attack as reasoning for his prediction, and he has noted that he would be surprised if Liverpool weren’t able to dominate the attack and create a plethora of chances.

He has written for Sky Sports: “With the attacking talent at their disposal they will always create chances and at St James’ Park I don’t see it being any different…I’d be shocked if Newcastle coped with them”.

It’s true that Liverpool’s options going forward are fantastic. With players like Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah, the Magpies will seriously struggle to control them.

That said, it could become a bit of a free for all, as the Reds have really struggled at the back so far this term. Undoubtedly, Jurgen Klopp’s side needs to step it up in that regard.

Still, the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling very confident indeed.

Landlord’s Verdict

Confidence will be a bit of a mixed bag at Anfield this weekend, particularly after failing to win in the Champions League earlier this week, and so it will be interesting to see what sort of effect that will have on the players.

With Sadio Mane now back in the fold, though, they will undoubtedly be more potent in the attack – and that could be key.
