The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are still furious after their side’s capitulation against Tottenham on Sunday. Coming off the back of a stunning performance in Europe, the Reds in the pub were hopeful that Liverpool’s form would turn around, but against Tottenham – it certainly did not. Liverpool were simply outclassed by their title rivals, and it has left the fans in the pub questioning the future of a number of figures at Anfield.
Unsurprisingly, Jurgen Klopp has been taking the brunt of the criticism in the pub, and it doesn’t appear as though the German will be getting any respite over the next few weeks, with all manner of people beginning to turn on him. The latest person to deliver a slamming verdict on the German is BBC Pundit Garth Crooks, who has suggested that it might be time for him to move on.
Writing within his Team of the Week, Crooks said: “They [Liverpool] are a great club with amazing history and they deserve a manager to reflect those points…The blind spot causing current Reds boss Jurgen Klopp not to see the deficiencies in his defence is becoming seriously embarrassing”.
“Liverpool executives are now forced to rethink the club’s strategy and fix what is an obvious problem. The man that can do that is [Carlo] Ancelotti and they must get him now while he’s available”, he added.
Crooks is clearly pulling no punches, and in truth, there are a fair few in the pub that agree with him. Whilst most desperately want Klopp’s tenure to go down as a success, so far the German is struggling this season.
Undoubtedly, another poor result or two over the coming weeks could see the pressure pile on the manager. With Carlo Ancelotti available, he could be an attractive proposition for the Reds.
It’s too soon to think about replacing Jurgen Klopp, but the German really needs to improve.
Domestically, results haven’t been good enough, and unless they pick up soon, they can forget about any sort of glory this season.
Though defensive mistakes are the main factor in their poor form, it is Klopp that will feel the effects if they continue to struggle, particularly with Carlo Ancelotti available. The Italian is a proven Premier League manager, having impressed with Chelsea, and so he could bring something new to Anfield if he is called upon.
