Pundit: Man Utd man was ‘majestic’ on Sunday, he could be the key in title pursuit this season

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are in dreamland after their side dominated West Ham on the opening day…

Though the Hammers have recruited efficiently this summer, Slaven Bilic’s side was no match for Jose Mourinho’s Man Utd machine, with the Red Devils being deserving winners against the London-based side.

Indeed, it was a very strong performance from the whole Man Utd team, but according to BBC Pundit Garth Crooks – one player was a cut above the rest in the middle of the pitch.

Placing him in his Team of the Week, Crooks has heaped huge praise on Nemanja Matic, describing his performance as ‘majestic’. Putting his qualities in the wider context of the season, Crooks didn’t hold back on how influential he thinks the Serbian will be this season, writing: “Landing Matic has been an extraordinary piece of business by Manchester United and that is why I have tipped them for the title”.

It’s certainly a bold claim, particularly with Chelsea, Tottenham and Man City all likely to be in the race, but it’s hard to argue with at this point.

Man Utd’s opening day performance was arguably the strongest in the Premier League, and Matic was a key part of that. It’s certainly looking good for the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern.

Landlord’s Verdict

Matic’s performance proved just how much of a strange decision it was from Chelsea to sell the Serbian, particularly to a Premier League title rival.

What is the Blues’ loss is Jose Mourinho’s gain, though, and the decision to sign him looks like a masterstroke.

It is early days, but if Matic keeps performing like that, the sky is the limit.
