Pundit: This Chelsea player’s energy against Tottenham was ‘superhuman’

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern’s celebrations are still going down in the Football Transfer Tavern…

Though they’ve been sombre for much of the season so far, victory against Tottenham on Sunday has left the Blues in the pub feeling very happy once again – with Antonio Conte’s side performing fantastically against their London rivals.

Indeed, from front to back, the Chelsea first team was in fine form. Marcos Alonso earned most of the plaudits, but one player that also impressed was Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The Frenchman was making his debut for the Blues after being out for much of the summer through injury, and the quality of his performance cannot go unnoticed.

Chelsea legend and regular contributor both on TV and online Pat Nevin has since discussed the game, and he has drawn particular attention to Bakayoko’s display.

Discussing his performance for Chelsea’s official website, Nevin said: “His [Bakayoko’s] energy levels on the day were bordering on superhuman considering the lack of training and match fitness”.

Elaborating, he said: ” You can only guess at what else he will have to offer in the future when you see him striding away from top players who are many weeks, or even months, ahead of him in their season’s fitness regimes”.

It was easy to forget that it was his first game back given how good the Frenchman looked, and as Nevin says, the best is undoubtedly yet to come as he continues to find his feet, form and fitness.

Landlord’s Verdict

Chelsea had a real midfield dilemma heading into the game, but Bakayoko calmed those fears perfectly.

It was a spirited performance, and whilst he did look out of shape at moments, he looked like a seasoned veteran for much of the game – and that must be commended.

Now Chelsea must keenly manage him and ensure that he isn’t pushed too early.
