Pundit: This is how Conte could solve Chelsea’s midfield dillema vs Tottenham

Chelsea’s game against Burnley was frustrating for the Blues in the Transfer Tavern for a number of reasons…

The result was, of course, very frustrating – with Antonio Conte’s side losing a game that most in the pub expected them to win, but their problems extend far beyond that of the result.

Indeed, both Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas were sent off during the game – giving Antonio Conte a real selection headache ahead of a visit to Tottenham.

Defensively, the Italian should be able to find a solution – with Andreas Christensen able to step in for the Englishman as he did against the Clarets. In midfield, though, he has more of a problem – with N’Golo Kante his only available central midfielder at present.

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have spent the last day or two trying to work out a solution, but they’re struggling. Pundit Pat Nevin, though, has written on the official Chelsea website discussing how he would go about solving the issue.

He said: “David Luiz could cruise in there, of course, and leave Dave [Azpilicueta], Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen as the back three.

He added: “We could go to a back four and there are even left-field options such as asking Dave (Azpilicueta) to play in beside N’Golo Kante. He would, of course, do a sterling job there as he does everywhere”.

Landlord’s Verdict

Nevin makes some good points, with the suggestion that David Luiz could go in midfield being a particularly interesting one. The Brazilian has, of course, played their before during his first stint with the Blues – and so that could be a genuine solution for Conte.

Could the Italian perhaps look to bring a new player in between now and Sunday?

There are a few possibilities for Conte, but he needs to make the right one.
