The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been pretty underwhelmed by what they’ve seen so far this season…
Their start to the campaign has been eerily reminiscent of last year’s iteration – with disappointment reigning supreme. Things have gotten slightly better following a win at the weekend, but optimism is still pretty low amongst fans.
However, former Hammer Stuart Pearce isn’t concerned, and in discussion with Sky Sports, he has revealed that he doesn’t think that we’ve seen all of West Ham quite yet this season.
Grading their season so far as a C, Pearce has revealed when he thinks we will be able to see what West Ham really have got. He said: “They had injuries, new players coming in, Andy Carroll wasn’t fit, and [when] the stagger unwinds, and the amount of home games catches up with the away games, we’ll start to really be able to judge West Ham”.
Pearce is right, in that it has been a tough start for the Hammers, though many don’t think that’s a fair excuse. To the contrary, West Ham were expected to make a decent start to the season, but given that they’re currently sat in 15th place, it’s clear that hasn’t happened.
Fortunately, there is reason for optimism for the Hammers. They’ve got a few very winnable fixtures coming up, and if Andy Carroll can get firing alongside Javier Hernandez, their goal threat will be huge going forward.
Still, the pressure is certainly on Slaven Bilic.
Slaven Bilic, just like last season, has walked along a very thin tightrope so far this term.
Pearce is giving him the benefit of the doubt, but if they don’t start winning regularly soon, the fans will undoubtedly begin to turn on him.
He’s got all the tools to turn things around, though.
West Ham fans – thoughts?
