The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for Dele Alli to return to form…
The Englishman has had a tough season by his standards, with the often-lethal attacker lacking the potency that was on display last term. He hasn’t been useless by any means, but the Tottenham fans in the pub are certainly hoping for more.
There’s no doubting his talent, and he’s clearly got massive potential, but as he continues to gain more experience, he certainly needs to improve – and that improvement isn’t just with regards to what he does with a ball at his feet.
He has earned a bit of criticism for his conduct lately, with his aggression occasionally getting the best of him, and this – according to Arsenal legend Ian Wright – is something that he desperately needs to reign in and learn to control.
Wright said: “You look at him and think yeah there is a bit of a liability about him. You think of what happened with David Beckham in 1998, all he did was flick up a leg, and the repercussions that followed – I wouldn’t like to see that happen to Dele”.
Continuing, he added: “He is the one I think can be world class for us and he has got to focus on that. He will learn”.
From diving to sending offs, Dele Alli has never been too far from the spotlight, which really is a shame. However, as Wright notes, he can certainly improve this area of his game – and at just 21-years-old, there is more than enough time to get rid of these nasty habits.
That said, he needs to ensure that this side of his game doesn’t become too prominent in the meantime, as he’s starting to earn a bit of a reputation in the Transfer Tavern.
Dele Alli’s quality is up there with the best in the Premier League, but the way he carries himself is, on occasion, not very good.
He needs to start doing his talking on the pitch, and undoubtedly, his poor form for Tottenham is heightening the focus on everything else.
Getting back on track is the first port of call, and then, hopefully, the rest will follow.
