Arsenal go into their clash with Watford on Saturday afternoon on the back of four straight wins and they will fancy their chances of making it five on the bounce at the Emirates Stadium.
Unai Emery suffered back-to-back defeats at the start of his Arsenal career but it appears he has steadied the ship and is beginning to move the club in the right direction.
Watford have started the season in decent for themselves with 13 points from their opening 6 fixtures, so it certainly won’t be an easy afternoon for the Gunners who are acutely aware of the threat posed by the Hornets after suffering defeat at Vicarage Road last season.
Ahead of the next round of Premier League fixtures, Mark Lawrenson delivered his pre-match predictions (via BBC) and he tipped Arsenal to come away with another three points with a 2- 0 victory.
And the BBC pundit reserved some special praise for one individual: ‘As well as their good results, I like the look of Lucas Torreira in midfield, so there is lots to be encouraged about.’
Indeed, Arsenal’s summer recruit has been a fantastic addition to the squad and, on the evidence of his performances thus far, he has the potential to blossom into a genuine star at the club.
The Uruguay international has needed to be patient so far this season as he only made his first start in the league in Arsenal’s last outing against Everton.
He may only be 5’6″ but his tenacity and positioning sense more than make up for his lack of height and, besides, plenty of the most successful holding midfielders have been on the shorter side – take N’Golo Kante, for example.
Torreira may not be a game changer in the penalty area, but his ability to sniff out danger and provide incisive forward-thinking passes into dangerous areas are two qualities which Arsenal need to ensure they record victory over Watford tomorrow, so Emery must start him once again to give his side the best possible chance of recording a 5th straight win.
