Liverpool have a long and rich history of producing young talent of the highest quality, and one of their famed academy talents, Trent Alexander-Arnold, enjoyed a landmark moment for the Three Lions last night.

That moment was, of course, his emphatic first goal for the England national team during a comfortable 3-0 victory over the USA at Wembley.

Shortly after Jesse Lingard had given England the lead with a sumptuous curling effort, the marauding full-back penetrated a glaring gap in the USA defence, and when he was found by Jadon Sancho he rifled the ball beyond Brad Guzan with imperious conviction.

It was a finish which any top striker would have been proud of, but it wasn't only his goal-scoring exploits which pleased Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.

In the aftermath of proceedings, Redknapp waxed lyrical about the 20-year-old and tipped him to enjoy an immensely bright future in the game.

"He's such a good footballer," he said. "The way he passes the ball; a good player passes it with pace and purpose, because they know the quicker you get it to someone, the more time they've got. That's what he does so well.

"It's effortless for him. He might make mistakes, he might get in the wrong position now and then, but he's got blistering pace.

"He's got it all, this young man. From what I can gather, he's got a level head, a good family around him. He's going to go right to the top."

Redknapp certainly hasn't held back in his admiration for the 20-year-old wonderkid, and it's fair to say he deserves the acclaim based on his exponential rise since the start of last season.

As Redknapp has alluded to, Alexander-Arnold is certainly no stranger to a mistake or a stray pass, but he is still a young player learning his trade at this level, so mistakes are par for the course.

Jurgen Klopp has occasionally overlooked Alexander-Arnold in favour of the more reliable Joe Gomez, but once he has ironed out the basic errors which are prone to creeping into his performances he will make the right-back berth his own.

Considering the brilliant blend of attacking dynamism and defensive intelligence which Alexander-Arnold is blessed with there is no doubt that Redknapp is spot on with his assertion that he is destined for the highest reaches of the game.
