QPR boss lining up switch for Portuguese international star

Redknapp can still prove useful to TottenhamThe transfer window may have slammed shut, leaving the Football Transfer Tavern very quiet, but teams can still sign players that are free agents and one London club are looking to do exactly that.

As according to The Mirror, Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp is lining up a move for Portuguese international forward Hugo Almeida.

The former Besiktas striker is available on a free transfer having been released from his contract at the Turkish club.

And the West London outfit are interested in bringing the 30-year-old to Loftus Road after they failed to lure a striker to the club over the summer.

It had looked like Harry Redknapp was bringing Jermain Defoe back to the Premier League from Toronto FC.

But the Canadian club blocked a move at the last minute despite the fact the former West Ham United and Tottenham striker travelled to England to seal a deal.

The failure to bring in Defoe means the Hoops have just Bobby Zamora and Charlie Austin left as out-and-out strikers for the Premier League campaign.

And Almeida could prove to be a decent stop gap for Redknapp’s side, until January at least.
