Fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have quickly worked out that if a player has previously played under Harry Redknapp then he’s going to be linked to QPR.
And according to the Daily Star, Redknapp now wants to bring former West Ham United academy player Glen Johnson to Loftus Road.
Johnson has just one year left on his Liverpool contract and had so far failed to come to an agreement over a new one at Anfield.
And that has apparently alerted Redknapp to the 29-year-old defenders’ availability this summer.
Redknapp and co are under pressure to act better with their money ahead of this season after getting themselves under a lot of financial pressure upon their relegation.
They need to reduce their crippling wage bill, which will be helped when Loc Remy leaves, but Redknapp is also fully aware that they need Premier League experience and that comes at a price.
Johnson wants a three-year-deal at Liverpool worth approximately £120,000 per week and Redknapp is currently weighing up a similar offer.
They already have a ready-made replacement in Jon Flanagan who proved a lot of his doubters wrong by having a more than impressive season in Liverpool.
And that would make room for long-term target Alberto Moreno who is reportedly just days away from undergoing a medical with the Reds.
The Spanish International will reportedly arrive on a £20 million deal from La Liga club Sevilla.
Liverpool fans. Is Jon Flanagan good enough to step up and replace Glen Johnson long-term? Let us know your thoughts below.
