QPR fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hopeful the rumours coming out of the Birmingham Mail are true which claim Harry Redknapp is chasing Aston Villa centre back Ron Vlaar.
Vlaar was one of the outstanding performers for the Netherlands at the summer’s World Cup, leading a defence that conceded just four goals throughout the tournament, finishing in third place.
QPR are completing the signing of Rio Ferdinand on a free transfer and want the Dutchman to partner him in a new look backline for next season.
Vlaar was praised by Ferdinand for his performances in Brazil, as the former Manchester United defender was working as a pundit for the BBC.
Rangers had previously been targeting Steven Caulker of Cardiff City but Vlaar may represent a cheaper option as he is entering the final year of his contract at Villa Park.
Redknapp is ready to test the club’s resolve with a £4 million offer although a decision will not be made on his future for a fortnight at least, with the former Feyenoord centre back on extended leave following his World Cup campaign.
