Queens Park Rangers fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are warned by the Daily Star that it will cost them at least £10 million to sign Jermain Defoe from Toronto FC as the Canadian club are adamant to make money off the player.
Toronto FC chief executive Tim Leiweke has reassured fans that whatever happens, it will be a positive move for their club, putting fear in QPR fans’ hearts as they don’t want to be paying that much for a 32-year-old Premier League veteran.
Although Hoops boss Harry Redknapp is keen to land the former England international, having already coached him at West Ham United, Portsmouth and Tottenham.
The clinical striker had a frustrating season in North America after being struck down by injury as Toronto also missed out on the MLS play-offs.
That said, despite a disappointing end to the season, Defoe managed to score 11 goals in 16 games.
Although there has been a lot of talk surrounding Defoe’s happiness and commitment to the club and Toronto must now get to the bottom of whether or not he wants to stay, before deciding on keeping him or not.
