QPR’s deadline day transfer blocked at the eleventh hour

Defoe.jpgWell it’s the calm after the storm but there are still fans in the Football Transfer Tavern discussing yesterday’s biggest deals and the ones that got away.

Strikers were the main movers of the day with Danny Welbeck and Radamel Falcao proving to be two of the biggest movers.

But, according to The Telegraph, one striker that did not get his move was former England international Jermain Defoe after his proposed switch to QPR was blocked.

Defoe only moved to Toronto FC six months ago when money, rather than football, swayed his head when he learned that his time at Tottenham was coming to an end.

However, it appears that the former West Ham United striker was keen on a return to the Premier League with reports suggesting that Defoe even flew back to England in the hope of pushing through a deal.

Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers made inquiries with the Major League Soccer side , however the Canadians blocked the deal in the latter stages of deadline day.

Defoe has struggled to adapt to life in Canada and was disappointed to see manager Ryan Nelsen – whom he played with at Tottenham – sacked from his post recently.

He was even offered to Arsenal as a quick fix for their striking crisis but it seems that Defoe will remain in North America till January at least.

Queens Park Rangers fans. Are you disappointed that Harry Redknapp wasn’t reunited with Defoe or do you think he will return in January? Let us know your thoughts below.
