With Spurs wobbling, fans are starting to wonder about the squad. Obviously there is the core of a great team there, but now fans want to see some incoming talent this summer to support the likes of Bale, VDV, and Parker.
They may well get their wish, as hot property Jan Vertonghen has been in the press recently telling of his admiration for the club. Speaking to Goal.com Vertonghen was quoted as saying;
“I think Tottenham are an amazing club and you see how well they are doing this season. They are in the top three in England and that’s where I want to play.
I can’t say anything about whether there has been contact about a transfer but I think my game can be suited to English football.”
Spurs interest in the player is well known, with Harry watching him in Ajax recent clash with Man Utd, a game in which he played well. It now seems they may be at the front of the £12million race for the Dutch 24 year old defender. A race that also includes Arsenal, Chelsea, and Newcastle.
Whoever wins his signature it seems it will be an EPL side, as Vertonghen also admitted,
“A lot of my colleagues from the national team play here and some are calling me to come. I love the atmosphere and it has the best players in the world, it breathes football. It’s one of my goals to play in the best leagues and against the best players.”
With flirtatious words like these Vertonghen has made it clear he is waiting for EPL clubs to make their move. Hopefully Spurs are willing to invest what is necessary for a Champions League run next year.
