Quality midfielder considering £35m Chelsea switch, friends consulted

NainggolanThere’s positive news for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern today, as it’s emerged a quality Blues target seems open to a move.

The Evening Standard says Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan has spoken to his friends about the possibility of moving to Chelsea this summer, in a deal likely to be worth around £35m.

Nainggolan, a Belgian international, has been targeted amongst Chelsea’s managerial elect Antonio Conte’s plan to raid the Serie A for talent, a league he knows well from his time with Juventus and the Italian national team.

Since arriving in Rome two-years ago, Nainggolan has been a huge success but a move this summer may appeal- especially as Roma’s involvement in the Champions League is under threat, with Fiorentina and Inter Milan pushing for third-place.

Even if they finish third, Roma need to advance through the qualifying stages in the Champions League and Napoli showed in the early stages of the season that’s not easy.

Nainggolan may elect to stay until the conclusion of the qualifying rounds with Roma but the window remains open until the two-legged tie comes to a close, so any failure to advance would intensify the likelihood of a move to the Premier League.
