The Toon Army in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a dramatic upturn in their side’s form during the second-half of the season.
Newcastle United began their return to the English top-flight in very respectable form, but they have since slipped into a barren run of 9 matches without a victory in recent weeks – a run which has seen them drop into 18th position in the Premier League.
Newcastle’s season has been overshadowed by rumours concerning a potential takeover at the club, and the resident Magpies propping up the bar in the tavern believe the distracting events off the field are having a negative impact on their team’s performance.
But now that negotiations between Mike Ashely and Amanda Staveley appear to be in their final stages before completion, the Newcastle supporters can begin to dream of a revival in the new year catalysed by the arrival of a handful of quality January signings.
And according to Newcastle’s very own regional newspaper The Chronicle, the club are looking to bring Leicester City’s Islam Slimani to St James’ Park in January, much to the delight of a handful of the Toon Army.
Rafa Benitez’s side have desperately struggled for goals so far this season, so it is no surprise that the supporters are excited by the prospect of landing a striker who has shown plenty of goal-scoring potential in the Premier League.
Here’s what the Newcastle supporters had to say about their links with Slimani…
Well he is better than anything we have upfront so hopefully we get him in. #nufc

I'd take Slimani and Ings. Goals in them.

This would be an exciting signing – finally someone you don’t have to google! He would suit our 4-2-3-1 a treat too.

For ages I’ve thought this guy would be possibly best of attainable options. Could handle the pressure. Knows where the goal is!
