The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Diego Costa stays at Chelsea this summer, but it doesn’t look like that will be the case without a fight…
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan are considering making a move for Costa this summer, following Atletico Madrid in their interest in the Spanish forward. Chelsea, meanwhile, are said to have offered the Spaniard a new contract to stay at the club – leaving Costa at the centre of a 3-way tussle.
AC Milan, it can be said, would have a slight advantage over Atletico Madrid in that they would be able to complete the deal this summer – given Atletico’s transfer ban – but that is unlikely to have much of an impact given Costa’s affinity for Madrid.
You also have to consider that how crucial Diego Costa has been to Chelsea since moving to Stamford Bridge. He bagged 20 goals in the Premier League during the 2016-17 campaign, and so the Blues are unlikely to let him go without a fight.
Indeed, it seems as though the race for Costa is beginning to heat up, and the summer transfer window isn’t even open yet. Costa, clearly, is very important for the Blues, but with AC Milan seemingly ready to spend big this summer, perhaps the Spaniard could be tempted by a move.
Either way, it looks like Chelsea are going to look to sign a striker this summer – with Romelu Lukaku reportedly a target for the Blues. Perhaps that could have an effect on Costa’s future.
