Rafa Benitez highlights three areas for improvement in January transfer window

Newcastle United’s place in the next season’s Premier League looks seriously in doubt, despite the season being just 10 games old.

The Magpies have failed to win a game so far and currently sit alongside Huddersfield Town at the bottom of the table with just three points.

In truth, they have not had the easiest of starts in the top-flight and have put some good performances in, however, finding the back of the net has been a real problem for them.

And, according to a report by the Newcastle Chronicle, Rafa Benitez will head into the January transfer market with the priority of a striker on his list of targets.

However, that is not the only position he has identified as an area he wants to improve, with a need for a left-back as well as a number 10 as a minimum.

The Verdict:

Benitez and Newcastle seriously need to enter the January transfer market for new recruits to give them a platform in order to remain in the Premier League.

Newcastle are currently the joint lowest scorers in the league, having only struck six times so far, so it hardly comes as a surprise that the Spaniard is keen on adding another striker to his squad, despite the arrivals of Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto.

It remains to be seen if he will get the backing he needs to make those transfers happen, but Mike Ashley may decide to put his hand in his pocket this winter should he want to see the club remain in the top-flight for another season.
