Rafa Benitez may hand new arrivals their debuts

Newcastle United will be looking to build on last season’s success and will open their Premier League campaign against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Magpies have managed to add a number of players to their side, as well as keeping the core of the team together, leaving Rafa Benitez with some optimism about the upcoming season, despite some frustrations about their transfer business.

However, he will be looking to get the job done on the pitch as usual and a match against a Spurs side that has not made any new additions could be the best way to start.

According to a match preview by Sky Sports, Newcastle could hand debuts to the likes of Fabian Schar, Ki Sung-yueng, Salomon Rondon and Yoshinori Muto.

Martin Dubravka could make a second debut for the club, as could Kenedy, following his permanent move to the St. James’ Park outfit as he is expected to be passed fit following a groin problem.

However, Benitez is likely to be without a couple of players for their clash with Tottenham, with Mohamed Diame struggling with a hip injury.

Deadline-day signing Federico Fernandez is unlikely to feature for the Magpies, whilst Florian Lejeune has been hit with a lengthy spell on the sidelines after having to undergo surgery for a knee concern.

The Verdict:

Newcastle will be looking forward to getting their season started and will be hoping to take full advantage of Tottenham’s lack of transfer activity.

Benitez will be hoping that his new signings can start to make an impact from the beginning and will help to give his side a solid start to the campaign.

Schar should partner Jamaal Lascelles at the back, however, there is a sense that Lejeune’s absence is one that could be felt during the game.
