Newcastle United are still searching for their first win in the current Premier League campaign after settling for a bore draw against Southampton.
The Magpies will need to seek improvements immediately if they are to avoid slipping adrift in the relegation zone, with other teams picking up points around them. And, to make matters worse, it appears as if one of Newcastle’s key figures is attracting interest, as according to The Mirror, Rafa Benitez has been offered an escape route.
Rafa Benitez has been offered a £10 million-a-year escape route from Newcastle by Chinese super-league giants Shanghai SIPG.
Indeed, the Chinese have pounced on continuing uncertainty swirling around the Spaniard, and the wages on offer would dwarf those at St James’ Park.
Benitez can expect to double his £5.5 million-a-year salary if he decides to cash in and walk away from the struggling north-east giants.
Plus, with Benitez’s contract set to run out at the end of the season, it may be the perfect opportunity for him to take his managerial career elsewhere, with Mike Ashley still at the club.
Rafa Benitez has certainly helped the Magpies get to where they want to be, but it has been difficult for him to secure positive performances in the current campaign, with minimal summer backing not helping the cause.
Indeed, the Spaniard may opt to move to China to try and rediscover himself as a manager, with money never being an issue over in the north-east.
