Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is once again looking to work miracles this season as he tries to maintain his team’s Premier League status once more.
A turn in form over recent weeks has raised spirits on Tyneside, and now Benitez will be hoping that owner Mike Ashley finally delves into his pockets and backs him during the January transfer window.
The Magpies need new additions, and in order to avoid a relegation dogfight, they are going to need to look at signing a host of new players in the winter window, with proven quality and a desire to play for the club likely to be top of the agenda.
And one man we at the Tavern think could be a brilliant signing is current Espanyol striker Borja Iglesias, who has been in excellent goalscoring form for the La Liga club this season.
Valued at some £20m on Transfermarkt, Borja represents a fairly cheap option given the prices of a lot of strikers in the modern game, and if he could indeed bring his La Liga form to St James’ Park, then Benitez would have quite the player on his hands.
While the likes of Joselu and Ayoze Perez haven’t always flourished for Benitez, he might well be willing to take a punt on another fellow countryman, and Borja might well be his man.
Strong, a handful, and an excellent finisher, the 25-year-old could be a superb signing for Newcastle.
