Newcastle United have been rather impressive in recent times in the Premier League, but they just haven’t been able to secure the results that they deserve.
The Magpies currently find themselves flirting with the possibility of relegation, with one point currently separating them from Southampton who currently sit in 18th position.
And, to make things worse, it appears as if the club may have to wave goodbye to one of its key figures, as according to the Shields Gazette, Rafa Benitez will walk away from Newcastle at the end of the season as it stands.
Indeed, the Spaniard is out of contract at St James’s Park this summer and there’s still a number of issues which Benitez wants resolved before he commits his future to the club.
Benitez would love for Mike Ashley to invest in new training facilities and the club’s youth system, but Ashley and his representatives are currently unwilling to fund any major investment at all in the club’s facilities or youth system.
Also, another frustration for Benitez is the way in which convoluted way in which deals are done at the club, as a number of deals have fallen through in past transfer windows.
So, it appears as if Ashley is pushing Benitez towards a summer exit as he continues to make things difficult, with an unwillingness to improve the facilities and the youth system.
Indeed, it looks highly unlikely that Benitez will sign a new deal at the club as Ashley doesn’t appear to want to change his ways.
