If there was one area that Crystal Palace needed to make a priority in strengthening over the summer, it would most definitely have to be in the final third of the pitch. Goals have been a serious problem for the Eagles for a while now, with the likes of Christian Benteke and Alexander Sorloth failing to impress those at Selhurst Park with their performances.
One South American attacker has been doing the exact opposite with his displays though, which has led to speculation suggesting that Roy Hodgson’s side are interested in acquiring him in the transfer window.
What’s the News?
Rafael Santos Borre has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace in recent weeks after returning an excellent seven goals in his 21 matches this season for River Plate and his agent, Helmuth Wennin, has admitted there is interest in his client.
“There’s the interest from Europe, Brazil, Mexico and the MLS,” he told Sport Witness, however, he remained coy on if there were any from the Eagles.
“I stay out of those answers out of respect for the club,” he added.
Although Wennin, unsurprisingly, kept the cards close to his chest about who was interested, Crystal Palace must make themselves involved in the chase for Santos Borre, even if the rumours are wrong.
The Colombian has been excellent for River this season and has shown that he can find the back of the target on a rather consistent basis, which is a lot better than a number of options that Hodgson currently has available to him at the moment.
He is a ridiculously pacey forward that possess plenty of intelligence when it comes to having possession of the ball and what decision to make, whilst his reading of the game is also of an excellent standard.
Strong and physical, the 23-year-old has plenty of attributes already in his locker that suggest he could have a bright future within the Premier League one day, although there is a chance that inconsistency can creep in with his performances.
Santos Borre has a tendency of hitting a real purple run of form, however, he can also struggle badly at times, something that was evident during his previous spell in European football with Atletico Madrid and Villarreal.
Crystal Palace fans, do you think the club should look to bring Santos Borre to Selhurst Park? Or would you look at other options? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
