The Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern were delighted to take one step closer to promotion back to the Premier League on the weekend as they beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 in the Championship. The Villains are currently fourth in the table, trailing second place Derby County by just five points now.
In order to ensure that they have the best chance of automatic promotion, Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce knows that transfer business must be done this window. The West Midlands outfit need a couple of fresh faces to add competition for places in the squad and add depth to their options for the run in.
A new defender could be a shrewd addition. Bruce should be scouring the market for a young one because his other options – John Terry and Christopher Samba – are veterans and could do with another younger and quicker player by their side. James Chester is a competent defender but another option is needed at the back.
Axel Tuanzebe would be an ideal addition. Aston Villa are reportedly keen on bringing in the Manchester United defender on loan and this would be a smart piece of business by Bruce. Tuanzebe has always impressed when given the opportunity in Manchester United’s first team and he would surely shine in the Championship.
The England under-21 international is strong and quick, which makes him an ideal candidate to line up alongside Villa’s older defenders. The 20-year-old is also comfortable with playing as a right-back or in midfield, making him a useful versatile asset for Bruce.
This loan move would benefit Tuanzebe too, as he would gain valuable playing time. The youngster only has three first team games under his belt this season and Manchester United need him to improve in a lower division before he makes his breakthrough as a first-team regular.
