Ralph Hasenhuttl has admitted one player has been ‘amazing’ during his time at Southampton as they look to maintain their place in the Premier League.
The Austrian has revealed that Jan Bednarek has been impressing him since the beginning and believes he will have a key role to play in ensuring they are in the top-flight next season.
“I’ve seen him from the first day as a really good player,” he told The Southern Daily Echo.
“From the first training situation I had the feeling he could give us much more.
“From the moment I came the trust I put in him he’s paid back every minute he’s played.
“He’s been amazing. The saves he’s made sometimes have helped us to get a lot of points.
“I’ve been thinking the positives and deficits every player has, and I haven’t found a lot of deficits in his game.
“That shows me how well he’s done until now.”
Bednarek is clearly a favourite under Hasenhuttl, having played in all 11 Premier League matches under the Austrian boss following his arrival in December.
The 22-year-old, who joined Southampton in 2017 from Lech Poznan, found the start of the campaign difficult as he appeared to have been frozen out of Mark Hughes’ plans, despite playing in the World Cup for Poland.
Bednarek has certainly benefited from the change of management this winter and that also appears to have been an advantage to Southampton as well.
Still only 22-years-old, the Poland international is a talented centre-back and one that is likely to continue to develop even further and take his game to another level, especially if he continues to play week-in and week-out for The Saints.
Valued at £4.5million by Transfermarkt, Bednarek will play a key role over the remainder of the season and will be vital to The St. Mary’s Stadium outfit’s chances of remaining in the Premier League.
