Ralph Hasenhuttl ready to offload Wesley Hoedt

Southampton appear to have made some improvement under Ralph Hasenhuttl’s guidance as manager.

The Saints have started to pick up points under the Austrian, including a resolute 0-0 draw against Chelsea.

However, it appears Hasenhuttl will look to make a number of changes to his squad in January and could be set to say goodbye to a player yet to feature for him.

According to a report by The Sun (January 3, page 49), via HITC Sport, Wesley Hoedt could be sold by the club this month.

The Dutch international does not appear to be part of the new manager’s plans at the St. Mary’s Stadium and, in truth, the 24-year-old has struggled to make a real impact since being on the south coast.

The Verdict:

With a number of players seemingly in front of him in the pecking order, it would not be a surprise to see Southampton try and offload Hoedt.

As mentioned, the Dutchman has failed to justify the £14.76million Mauricio Pellegrino spent on him to bring him from SS Lazio in the summer of 2017, per Transfermarkt.

However, it remains to be seen if they can offload him from their books this winter, otherwise, it could be a long six months for Hoedt under Hasenhuttl.
