Alex McLeish has set his sights on making Rangers and Scotland goalkeeper Alan McGregor his first signing as Aston Villa manager.
Rangers are looking to tie up there number 1 on a new contract, although with no deal being struck yet the lure of the premiership could be too much. With Rangers currently looking to bring Carlos Cuellar back to Ibrox there could be some sort of a trade between the two clubs.
Alan has been in fantastic form for Rangers this season and his saves made a massive contribution to the destination of the title. The player himself has had troubles off field in the past and is saw as a bit of a playboy and this has maybe affected interest from other club as his goalkeeping ability is up there with the best.
The SPL may not be the best league but Alan has proved himself at the highest level pulling off excellent performances in the Champions League and was an integral part of there run to the Uefa Cup final a few years back if the deal to buy Alan falls through Ben Foster is another option for Alex as they worked together at Birmingham.
If Alex does manage to lure McGregor he will be getting a safe pair of hands, which is no doubt going to prove costly as he tries to win over the Villa faithful. There is no doubt going to be some rebuilding work at the club and Alex is clearly going to start rebuilding from the back and Alan is seen as the rock in which he intends to build his back-line.
