Rangers have been one of the standout performers in the Scottish Premiership this season, but they’ll need to improve if they are to pip Celtic to the title.
The Bluenoses will be desperate to give supporters something to shout about in the current campaign by securing at least one piece of silverware in Steven Gerrard’s first season. But, things aren’t working out on the transfer front as Rangers suffered a huge setback recently, as according to The Sun (21/12; page 64) (via HITC), Kieran Dowell is set to join Sheffield United on loan for the rest of the season.
It was reported that Rangers were interested in securing the services of the youngster, but they now look set to miss out as Sheffield United are set to sign him.
Indeed, after waving goodbye to Ovie Ejaria recently, it’s vital that Rangers bring in a central midfielder in the January transfer window as they’re currently light on numbers.
After missing out on Ben Woodburn back in the summer months, it appears as if Dowell is also set to follow the same path.
Indeed, this comes as a huge setback as the Bluenoses will now have to look elsewhere.
The attack-minded midfielder could have easily taken Rangers to another level in the current campaign, as he was simply sensational during his loan spell at Nottingham Forest.
So, with a lack of numbers in the middle of midfield, an injury could make things very tough for the Bluenoses.
