Report outlines Rangers’ interest in highly-rated Man United duo

Rangers supporters in the Transfer Tavern were left far from happy with their side at the weekend after seeing the managerless Gers lose 2-0 at home to Hamilton on Saturday, thus falling nine points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic.

Graeme Murty remains in temporary charge of the Scottish giants following the departure of Pedro Caixinha back in October, but the former Reading and Southampton defender suffered his first defeat as interim boss at Ibrox on Saturday. Second half goals from David Templeton and Darren Lyon sealed a deserved 2-0 win for Hamilton, who in turn moved up to seventh in the Scottish Premiership table, and thus inflicted a third league loss of the campaign on Rangers, who themselves remain fourth but now nine points adrift of leaders Celtic.

Thus, there are many despondent Gers fans in the Tavern, although they are likely to be encouraged by a recent report from The Sun, which suggests that Rangers are eyeing up a move for Manchester United duo Ethan Hamilton and Scott McTominay.

19-year-old Hamilton moved to Old Trafford back in 2014 but has still yet to feature for the senior team at the North West giants, although he has made 14 Premier League 2 appearances to suggest that he is making his way through the ranks at the club.

While 20-year-old McTominay has made his first team debut for the Red Devils, doing so in defeat to Arsenal back in May of this year, and he has since added five further appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side, including two in this season’s Champions League group stages.

And reports suggest that Rangers have been keeping tabs on the young duo ahead of a possible move in January, with the Gers clearly on the lookout for reinforcements ahead of the second half of the season.

But whether United sanction the loan of the highly-rated starlets very much remains to be seen.

Landlord’s verdict: There seems to be much uncertainty at Rangers at present, what with it almost a month since manager Pedro Caixinha was relieved of his duties, and no new boss appointed.

Nonetheless, the managerless Gers still appear to be planning for a crucial January transfer window, with reports suggesting that they have scouted Manchester United youngsters Ethan Hamilton and Scott McTominay in recent times.

The former has yet to make a senior appearance for the Red Devils yet the latter has twice appeared in the Champions League this term, so it remains unclear whether Rangers can indeed tempt Jose Mourinho into parting with both in January.
