Despite remaining in the bottom three in the Premier League, Reading supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are in good spirits this morning after their incredible 3-2 comeback victory over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and their mood has been further enhanced by news from Sky Sports that they are finally about to sign TP Mazembe defender Stoppila Sunzu.
The transfer saga with the 23-year-old has lasted for the a few weeks as the two clubs thrashed out a deal for the centre back whose contract didn’t expire until 2015.
However Reading have now persuaded the DR Congo-based side to part with Sunzu and only the usual transfer formalities remain before the transfer is all signed and sealed.
The Zambian international had attracted interest from Arsenal with Arsene Wenger a keen admirer but it appears that Reading have won the race to land him and he will fly into England tomorrow to complete a medical.
Mazembe president Moses Katumbi said: “Indeed, Sunzu is heading to Reading for tests after the agreement by TP Mazembe and the Zambia Federation.
“He just sent us a message in which he thanked the club.”
Sunzu is a Zambian national hero after his penalty shootout goal won his country the 2012 African Cup of Nations final against many people’s favourites for the title, Cote D’Ivoire.
