The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern were shown exactly what they’d been missing when Toby Alderweireld took to the pitch in the Premier League last night for the first time since late October. Spurs drew 1-1 on the night but Alderweireld’s dominant display has shown our local Spurs just what he’s capable of, with many now begging for him to stay on social media.

The Spurs fans propping our bar up have been getting by without Alderweireld since he suffered a hamstring injury back in the 3-1 home win over Real Madrid last year. The injury kept him out for a lengthy period of time and most likely played a negative role in the Belgian’s contract situation. It’s reported that Alderweireld wants a five-year deal and £150,000 per week to stay at Spurs, something that Daniel Levy and the Tottenham hierarchy aren’t prepared to offer the 29-year-old.
Most of the club’s fans had come to terms with this, then over the weekend, Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that Alderweireld would be involved in the squad for the Brighton game at The Amex Stadium last night. As per usual, Toby Alderweireld let very little past him and had an air of class about him as he went about his business with Jan Vertonghen at the heart of the Spurs defence. Unfortunately for our local Lilywhites, he showed them everything he was capable of, just months before the transfer window opens when he’s set to depart N17.
You can read our resident Spurs fans’ pleas to Alderweireld here:
Slowly starting to fall in love with you again..

Well played Toby, please stay.

Proved tonight that form is temporary but however class remains permanent. No denying we looked absolutely more settled defensively with you back in the team alongside Jan.
Makes it even harder to stomach on the back of performance like that you may not be with us next season.

Glad to have you back playing Toby. Always remember that we the fans truly appreciate how important you are to the team even if the board don’t.
