He only departed the Premier League in the summer but according to reports emerging today in the Football Transfer Tavern, Real Madrid flop Luka Modric may be inclined to move back to England soon.
The news reported by Mirror Football correspondent Matt Law has put Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City on red alert for a summer return. The midfielder has just been voted La Liga’s worst signing of 2012 having moved to the Bernabeu from Spurs for a reported £33 million in the summer and the Croatian is understood to be struggling to adapt to the Spanish culture and surroundings with the player himself even describing the move as “challenging” last week.
According to Law, the 27-year-old will be monitored by the Premier League clubs with Chelsea thought to be leading the chase for the struggling Real Madrid man as a straight replacement for Frank Lampard with Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini also vying for his signature.
Despite today’s reports it is still thought that Modric, who has only started eight games this season, does want to remain in Spain to try and turn his fortunes around at Madrid. But after another difficult six months, he could well change his mind.
