The Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern were delighted that Mourinho got his man…
Despite his mixed start to life in Manchester, there is no denying that Paul Pogba was one of the most highly sought-after players in world football during the summer.
In every corner of the Tavern, fans were touting how their club was the ideal destination for the Frenchman – with the Chelsea faithful in particular set on a move.
Manchester United ended up being his final destination – and the Red Devils haven’t looked back since.
However, whilst rival clubs have largely been silent on their once interest in Pogba; Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has now revealed that the La Liga giants were keen on the Frenchman during the summer.
Speaking to RMC, Zidane said: “It could have happened. There were conversations [for Pogba] but it didn’t go ahead.”
The Frenchman does not go into detail on how far along the deal went, but our landlord doesn’t think it was a case of funds. Madrid are never afraid to spend big in the summer, as seen with deals for both Bale and Ronaldo.
Our landlord actually thinks it was a conscientious decision by Zidane to pass on Pogba; after all – where would he fit in the Real Madrid first team?
The Man United fans are delighted that they were the club to land Pogba, and a few of the Red Devils by the bar are glad that after selling Ronaldo to Madrid all those years ago – they’ve finally got one back on their Spanish rivals.
Everyone in the Tavern is expecting Pogba to come good by the end of the season.
