We often hear rumours that we don’t fully believe while spending time in the Football Transfer Tavern and one that seems quite unlikely is that Real Madrid want to sign Manchester United’s David De Gea.
The Sun reports that the Spanish champions are preparing a £22 million bid for the goalkeeper in the summer after Jose Mourinho fell out with current first choice stopper Iker Casillas.
The Spanish Under-21 international has been unconvincing since signing for United at the start of last season and Ferguson is known to be looking at other alternatives to find a long-term replacement for Edwin van der Sar.
Casillas, who is club captain at the Bernabeu, was dropped for their recent defeat to Malaga after talk about unrest in the dressing room and The Sun now believe that Real have lined up the United keeper as his replacement.
A Real insider told the paper: “De Gea is definitely wanted by Mourinho but a lot depends on his own future.
“But he’s studied De Gea’s form closely and is very interested.”
