The Sunderland fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are disappointed with how the opening day of the season went for David Moyes’s new team. However, Sunderland are still looking to strengthen the squad with an experienced defensive signing.
Spanish newspaper Sport (via Sport Witness) are reporting that former Real Madrid star, Alvaro Arbeloa, could be on his way to the Stadium Of Light.
The Spaniard is currently a free agent having been released by The Galacticos at the end of last season and it looks as if he may not be out of a club for too long, with Sunderland look to bring the experienced right back to the Premier League.
The 33-year-old, who had a previous spell in England with Liverpool, could add a new level of confidence to David Moyes’ defence, something our Landlord thinks is desperately needed.
The Spanish international has amassed 56 caps for his nation, picking up a World Cup and two European Championships along the way.
Sunderland fans, what would Arbeloa bring to your squad? Would you like to see him join your club? Let us know in the comments below…
