Chelsea fans by the Transfer Tavern fire have started to sweat this afternoon and it’s not because we threw an extra log on. Instead, they’re worried a key-player could be on his way out imminently.
The Sun states that £80m-rated Eden Hazard is Real Madrid’s prime transfer-target this month and that Real Madrid have been handed a boost in their quest for the Belgian star, with the La Liga transfer window extended by a day.
Previously the Spanish window was set to shut on the 31st January but it’s now been moved to sit in-line with other top leagues across Europe, including the Premier League. A statement read:
“La Liga reports on the change in the closing date of the second registration period of players for the 2015/2016. ”
“The application for licenses of players for the Liga BBVA and Liga Adelante will end next Monday, February 1 at 23:59, thus coinciding with the time limit set in most European professional leagues.”
It means Real Madrid’s transfer ban imposed by FIFA has been delayed by a day and it gives Zinedine Zidane extra time to land some sensational deals, with reports earlier this month stating he’s ready for a £250m spending-spree.
Hazard is widely expected to be on his way out at the end of the season but Real’s transfer ban means that if he did sign for Los Blancos, he would be unable to feature until 2017.
Our landlord thinks it’s highly unlikely that Hazard will seal an exit before Monday’s deadline but has urged Chelsea fans to be cautious just in case.
